Fiat Brand Continues To Expand With The All-New Fiat 500X

November 20, 2014 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The all-new 2016 Fiat 500X is the latest addition to the FIAT lineup in North America, combining the authentic Italian design and engaging driving dynamics synonymous with the FIAT brand, together with an advanced all-wheel-drive system, unmatched functionality, and a full array of safety, comfort and convenience features.

“The Fiat 500X will significantly expand the reach of the FIAT brand in North America,” said Jason Stoicevich, Head of FIAT Brand North America, Chrysler Group LLC. “The all-new 500X delivers the Italian design and personality that we are known for, along with an unprecedented level of equipment and technology. In addition, it will be the first vehicle in our portfolio to offer an advanced all-wheel-drive system that will provide customers with peace of mind in all driving conditions.”

With comfortable seating for five, world-class craftsmanship, and superior ride and handling, the Fiat 500X delivers driving excitement, technology, safety and functionality to the rapidly growing small crossover segment.

In the United States, the all-new Fiat 500X is available with the fuel-efficient 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission, with an output of 160 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir2 engine produces 180 horsepower and 175 lb.-ft. of torque, and is paired exclusively to a nine-speed automatic transmission on all-wheel-drive and front-wheel-drive models.

A disconnecting rear axle allows for reduced parasitic loss when all-wheel-drive capability is not needed, improving fuel efficiency. The Dynamic Selector system allows the driver to choose from three modes (Auto, Sport and Traction +) for the most suitable vehicle configuration for different driving conditions.

The 2016 Fiat 500X offers up to 70 standard and available safety and security features, including Forward Collision Warning-Plus, LaneSense Departure Warning-Plus, Blind-spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path detection. Electronic stability control (ESC) with Hill-start Assist and electronic roll mitigation is standard on all models, as are seven air bags.

Loaded with technology and convenience, the Fiat 500X is available with features like Uconnect 6.5 radio with a 6.5-inch high-resolution touchscreen and navigation, Bluetooth streaming audio, Uconnect Access Via Mobile, a 3.5-inch color thin-film transistor (TFT) cluster display, Keyless Enter-N-Go, and heated front seats and steering wheel.

The all-new Fiat 500X was designed at Centro Stile in Turin, Italy, where designers leveraged the character and iconic features of the Fiat 500 into a larger and more mature package. On the exterior, design elements like double headlamps, a trapezoidal nose, the signature “whiskers and logo” face and the rounded clamshell hood pay homage to the original Cinquecento. The purposeful and distinct Italian design carries through to the interior with clever storage, body-color instrument panel, a circular cluster display and iconic door handles.

The 2016 Fiat 500X is available in five trim levels: Pop, Easy, Lounge, and for a more rugged look, Trekking and Trekking Plus. The Trekking and Trekking Plus models feature unique front and rear fascia designs, and satin silver accents for a distinct, adventurous appearance.

Crafted in Italy at Fiat Automobiles’ Melfi assembly plant, the all-new Fiat 500X will arrive in FIAT studios in North America in the first half of 2015. As a global vehicle, it will go on sale in more than 100 countries worldwide.

September 29, 2014 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Dodge auctioned the first production 707-horsepower 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat VIN0001, the most powerful and fastest muscle car ever, for $825,000 at the Sept. 27 Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas 2014 auction benefitting Opportunity Village, a not-for-profit organization that serves people with significant intellectual disabilities in the Las Vegas area. The Engelstad Family Foundation of Las Vegas matched the auction price, bringing the grand total raised for Opportunity Village to $1.65 million. With their generous donation, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat raised more money for charity than any other car in Barrett-Jackson history.

Barrett-Jackson waved all bidding and consignment fees, so 100 percent of the sale price goes to the charity.

“The $1.65 million raised by auctioning this one-of-one Dodge Challenger Hellcat at this year’s Barrett-Jackson auction means the most powerful muscle car ever will also have a very powerful impact on the people who benefit from the services of Opportunity Village,” said Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO, Dodge and SRT Brands, Chrysler Group LLC. “The VIN0001 muscle car was not only one of the hottest cars that rolled through the Barrett-Jackson auction lanes, it is also the ultimate collectible 2015 Dodge Challenger as Dodge is ensuring there will never be another one like it.”

The one-of-one special edition 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, with a 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V-8 engine and 0001 vehicle identification number (VIN), has an NHRA-certified quarter-mile time of 10.8 seconds at 126 mph with drag radials, 707 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque on tap right from the assembly line. Adding to the exclusivity, the donated muscle car is the only Dodge Challenger to ever have a Viper-exclusive Stryker Red exterior - hand-painted at the Dodge Viper paint facility - and it includes special Hellcat badging on the instrument panel and supercharger, specific VIN documentation and one-of-a-kind memorabilia.

The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat VIN0001 has a class-exclusive TorqueFlite eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission with rev-matching downshifts, 15.4-inch Brembo front disc brakes with two-piece rotors and six-piston calipers, the largest brakes ever offered by Chrysler Group and 20-by-9.5-inch lightweight matte black forged-aluminum wheels. It will have newly designed interior trimmed in premium Black Laguna leather on performance-oriented seats, a modern dash layout featuring the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen and an authentic forged-aluminum supercharger plenum cover under the hood.

The auction package includes a 6.2-liter supercharger engine cover and a HEMI Orange painted base presentation box with a VIN0001 electronic vehicle build book and a video documentary on an iPad mini that shows the step-by-step build process of the car. The one-of-a-kind presentation box also includes still shots, vehicle footage, a customized key fob holder, an authentic Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat embossed Laguna Leather iPad sleeve, a SRT Hellcat lithograph and unique “birth certificate” for VIN0001. Additional information on the vehicle is available on the news feed page of www.driveSRT.com.

Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports and several Chrysler Group dealerships, was the winning bidder at the auction.

The Engelstad Family Foundation was established in 2002 in honor of family patriarch Ralph Engelstad. Since then, the foundation has donated generously to the Las Vegas community.

“With 707 horsepower, the 2015 Dodge Hellcat is more than just the most powerful muscle car built by an American manufacturer,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. “It is also the means to help countless people with severe intellectual and related disabilities reach their potential. We’re honored that Dodge chose our 2014 Las Vegas auction to sell Hellcat VIN0001 to support Opportunity Village. Not only will the wonderful people at this organization benefit from the sale of this muscle car, but the winning bidder will own a truly amazing piece of American automotive history.”

“We are so unbelievably thankful for the support of Dodge and Barrett-Jackson,” Linda Smith, Associate Executive Director, Opportunity Village, stated. “We are touched by their amazing generosity and support of our mission here to support individuals with disabilities by giving them the chance to lead independent and fulfilling lives.”

Bearing his name, the special edition NX 200t F SPORT pairs the flair and creativity of will.i.am’s innovative personality with the eye-catching striking angles of the Lexus NX. With cutting-edge on-board technology, a sharply-styled exterior and an aggressive and sporty design, the NX is aimed at younger, urban and more design oriented customers.

Speaking about the special edition SUV, will.i.am said: "When I found out Lexus wanted me to be involved in the Striking Angles campaign, my first thought was, can I design a car with you?  I’m honored to be launching my bespoke Lexus NX F SPORT in Paris –this car is super fresh and incorporates my personal style. My point of view is the best kind of design will encourage other people to interpret that design.”

Alain Uyttenhoven, Head of Lexus Europe said: “Working with will.i.am to produce a bespoke take on the NX has been a fantastic experience. The striking design of the NX has already captured the imagination of customers worldwide and will.i.am’s bespoke take extends the car’s captivating personality and character in a new direction that embodies his unrivalled creativity and vision.”

CUTTING EDGE TECHNOLOGY
One of the most innovative features of will.i.am’s bespoke NX is the ability to capture panoramic photographs and video footage whilst driving. Built into the customised body kit are four 180° interconnected camera lenses. The media that is captured can then be displayed on the smartphone screen of the driver or passenger, instantly via Bluetooth.

To support the growing trend for consumers to own more than one mobile device, the bespoke car also features the Lexus NX patented Wireless Charging Tray. Located in the centre console box, the innovative technology allows smart phones and other compatible devices to be recharged by being placed on the tray, with no need for a cable.

As can only be expected for a multi-platinum selling artist, the audio system inside the sports SUV is premium. It features a Lexus NX 10-speaker Pioneer Surround Sound System, consisting of 16cm speakers in the front and rear doors and a set of 6.5cm speakers mounted in the instrument panel.

Under the bonnet sits Lexus’ all-new 2.0l VVT-iW turbo petrol engine and six-speed automatic transmission, boasting 238 DIN hp / 175 KW and a hefty 350 Nm of torque at 1650-4000rpm. This will take the car from 0-100km/h in a brisk 7.1sec and 80-120km/h in 6.0sec.

EXTERIOR
Through a unique blend of innovation and design, will.i.am has added his own touch to the striking exterior of the NX, producing a lower, wider and bolder model. The bodywork incorporates an arresting blend of brushed aluminum, carbon vinyl and will.iam’s signature monochrome, matte pearl white paintwork with a black tinted panoramic glass roof.  Powerfully flared front and rear fenders are fused to a diamond-shaped body with lines generated from the spindle grille.

As well as being lowered the bespoke car boasts a set of massive 22-inch alloy wheels. These alloys have been painted with a luminous black machine finish in contrast to the highly visible bright orange break calipers.

INTERIOR
Inside, the stylised bespoke car features a distinctive combination of high performance brushed aluminum and contrasting soft materials to create a bold, yet luxurious, interior design. The signature monochrome colour scheme continues inside creating a clean and cohesive overall look.

Embroidered with will.i.am’s globally renowned #willpower logo, the modified leather seats provide the perfect viewpoint to appreciate the Lexus NX innovative central console and custom-built steering wheel. The musician has even specified luxurious Nappa leather and brushed aluminum floor mats.

The Lexus NX was manufactured at the Lexus Miyata Plant, Kyushu, Japan.

Let Us Drive A Lexus: GS350, ES350 and IS350

By Darlene Donloe

You’d have to hire someone to help you NOT like a Lexus!!! While driving down the street in the Riviera Red Lexus GS350 4-Dr Sedan, the Fire Agate Pearl ES350 4-Dr Sedan and the Deep Sea Mica IS350 AWD Sedan, I noticed that heads were turning.  Naturally, I thought it was because I was looking particularly fetching. But, no, it was the cars. People were looking and pointing at the cars – and for good reason. To find out why, keep reading!

 IS350 AWD Sedan

THE CAR: 2014 Lexus IS350 AWD Sedan

I like this car a lot. I look good in this car, but to be honest, anyone would! First, it’s a good-looking car. Second, it handles well. Third, there is power under the hood. Fourth, it’s classy. At $50K, one would expect to have all of the above. However, the IS350 is exceptional. It’s not an arrogant car, although, the way it looks and handles, it could be!  It has a confident ride with comfortable seats.  The fuel economy isn’t spectacular, but it’s not awful either. Although I prefer my cup holder near the top of the center console and not the back, given the benefit of driving the IS350, I can learn to live it.

VEHICLE AT A GLANCE: 3.5 liter V6-24 valve, dual overhead cam (DOHC), direct and port injection, Variable Valve Timing (VVT-1), 306 hp 277 lb-ft Torque; 17” aluminum wheels, dual chrome exhaust, power tilt/slide moon-roof with one-touch open/close, 6-speed automatic transmission; paddle shifters, electronic control with Intelligence (ECT-1), full time All-Wheel Drive; Drive Mode Select – ECO Normal, Sport & Snow; double wishbone front & multi-link rear suspension’ Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM; Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with/electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) &  Brake Assist (BA); Bluetooth hands free phones & media streaming; Lexus Premium Display Audio System-HD Radio with real-time traffic and weather. Gracenote album art, MP3 player USB integration, SiriusXM Satellite Radio.

MSRP: $50,220
FUEL ECONOMY: 21/26
THE DRIVE:  E-Z!

 GS350 4-DR Sedan

THE CAR:  GS350 4-DR Sedan

My parents always told me to stay away from red cars because they attract cops.  They were right about this little red number. It not only attracted cops, it attracted everybody!  Driving this car, which can go from 0-60 in 5.6 seconds, is effortless. It’s as if the car already knew where I wanted to go. The ride is so smooth – it almost feels like you’re floating several inches off the ground. That’s not to say that the car isn’t grounded, because it is. It seems to have a dual characteristic. It hugs the road while somehow suspended in air. Go figure.

VEHICLE AT A GLANCE: Smart access Keyless entry with Push Button Start/Stop, 3.5 Liter V6 with direct injection and port, fuel injection 306 hp @ 6400, 277 lb-ft torque, 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, drive mode select, front independent double-wishbone ad independent, multi-link rear suspension, , 6-speed automatic with manual shifting mode, 4-wheel-drive, 5-passenger, 4-door sedan; backup monitor, Lexus premium audio system, advanced voice, SiriusXM Satellite Radio w/Remote Touch10 airbags.

MSRP: $59,104
FUEL ECONOMY: 23/29
THE DRIVE: Smooth!

 ES350 4-DR Sedan

THE CAR: ES350 4-DR Sedan

If you want comfort, reassurance and luxury, you don’t have to look any further than the ES350. If you want to look stylish, you don’t have to look any further than the ES350. Chrysler Group in 2015, Under The Hood: More Power, Greater Efficiency And Exceptional Value

  • Celebrated TorqueFlite family grows by one with most robust eight-speed automatic in Chrysler Group history; 15th new transmission
  • TorqueFlite transmissions – projected to save current Chrysler Group customers more than 700 million gallons of gasoline – now available across entire Dodge full-size car lineup
  • Debut of new, high-efficiency, lightweight axle family
  • Expansion of fuel-saving Engine Stop-Start (ESS) technology
  • North American powertrain portfolio further enriched by Alfa Romeo 4C’s 1750 -cc turbocharged I-4 and twin-clutch transmission
  • Breakthrough nine-speed automatic transmission, unique rear-axle disconnect system migrates to new applications – each a segment-first
  • Introducing the HEMI® Hellcat - Chrysler Group's most powerful V-8 ever; 18th new engine added to Company lineup in less than five years
June 26, 2014 - Auburn Hills, Mich. - Power, efficiency and value are essential to maintaining powertrain leadership in today’s new-vehicle market. Chrysler Group checks all three boxes – with authority – for model-year 2015.

“From the dyno lab to the test track, we have been relentless,” says Bob Lee, Vice President and Head of Engine, Powertrain and Electrified Propulsion Systems. “Our engineers don’t just strive for excellence; they seek to redefine it by continually raising the bar.”

This is evidenced by Chrysler Group’s aggressive support for advanced powertrain development. It began as soon as the Company was established in 2009. Today, investment is approaching $2.5 billion – nearly half its total manufacturing outlay.

From model-year 2011 to the present, Chrysler Group has introduced 15 new transmissions, 18 new engines and the battery-electric drive system featured in the acclaimed Fiat 500e all-electric vehicle.

Power Trip
The new supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 HEMI® Hellcat best symbolizes this march forward. Its 600-plus horsepower rating is unparalleled in the Company’s matchless history of eight-cylinder prominence.

The HEMI Hellcat, with 91 percent new content compared with the 392 HEMI, is the heart and soul of the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT. It is, in a word, extreme. Consider:
  • Its forged-steel crankshaft is so well-engineered it can withstand firing pressures of 1,595 psi (110 bar) – the equivalent of five family sedans standing on each piston, every firing event
  • Its twin-screw supercharger, which has polymer-coated rotors, boasts a drive ratio of 2.36:1 and a maximum speed of 14,600 rpm
  • A low-temperature cooling circuit with two air/coolant heat exchangers integrated into the supercharger housing, keeps charged air temperatures below 140 degrees Fahrenheit (60 degrees Celsius) while enabling air flow of up to 30,000 liters per minute
  • Its power is not de-rated due to cooling demands, even after 20 laps of a grueling 3.1-mile road course at an ambient temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37 degrees Celsius)
  • Eight injectors served by half-inch fuel lines, each capable of delivering a flow rate of 600 cc/min; can drain the fuel tank in approximately 13 minutes at full power

And, of course, its block is HEMI Orange.

TorqueFlite in High Gear
But an extreme engine deserves an equally extreme transmission. Enter the newest member of Chrysler Group’s celebrated TorqueFlite family of eight-speed automatic transmissions, the HP90. Its maximum engine-torque capacity is greater than any previously offered TorqueFlite.

This is accomplished by adding pinion gears, one each in the 1st and 3rd gear sets, and five additional clutch disks, incorporated into 4 of the 5 clutch packs. Its ratio spread is an impressive 7.03.

“A wide ratio spread is one of the characteristics of all TorqueFlite transmissions,” says Jeff Lux, Vice President and Head of Transmission Powertrain. “It enables superior fuel economy to benefit our customers and affords Chrysler Group a key competitive advantage.”

The advanced-technology TorqueFlite eight-speed automatics – first of their kind ever made available to mainstream-brand customers – now are powering more than one million vehicles, worldwide. And their combined effect is staggering.

Over their lifetimes, these vehicles are projected to save their owners more than 700 million gallons of fuel, compared with their predecessors that featured five- or six-speed automatics. That quantity of gasoline is worth approximately $2.5 billion at the pump, based on current fuel-price forecasts.

Replacing their conventional transmissions with TorqueFlites also promises to reduce their combined C02 emissions by more than six million metric tonnes over the same timeframe.

In addition, TorqueFlite eight-speed transmissions contribute to best-in-class fuel-efficiency standards such as the EcoDiesel-powered Ram 1500’s 28 miles per gallon (mpg) highway fuel-economy rating, the best ever recorded for a full-size pickup; and the 31 mpg highway rating for the Dodge Charger, best among full-size sedans equipped V-6 engines.

For 2015, TorqueFlite does even more for the iconic Charger and its legendary Dodge stablemate, the Challenger. The technology can now be paired with either of their available V-8 engines, the 5.7-liter HEMI or 6.4-liter HEMI.

New Axle Family
These cars and the Challenger SRT further benefit from the introduction of a new family of efficient, lightweight axles. It will account for vehicle applications previously served by two axle families.

The new family, which has three variants, affords weight reductions of up to seven pounds, compared with the components they replace. Additional efficiency benefits include spin-loss reductions.

Distinguished by a die-cast aluminum housing and a four-point mounting system with integrated mounting arms and bosses, the new axles deliver greater refinement.
The SRT versions, with their unidirectional limited-slip differential, feature unique bias-ratio tuning for on- and off-throttle performance. This affords greater flexibility to tune the vehicle for maximum grip, stability and steering response.

The new axles smoothly deliver power during hard acceleration on corner-exit.  On corner-entry trail-braking, the differential further tightens to stabilize the car and prevent oversteer.

ObsESSed with Efficiency
Model-year 2015 also marks the debut of two new applications of Engine Stop-Start (ESS) technology.

Availability in the popular Jeep Cherokee is scheduled for third quarter. ESS arrives the following quarter in the all-new Chrysler 200. It will account for fuel-economy gains and C02 reductions of up to three percent.

The technology made its NAFTA-region debut in the Ram 1500 full-size pickup. ESS helps deliver a one-mpg city-cycle fuel-economy gain in the Ram, the most fuel-efficient truck in its segment.

At the heart of ESS is a high-speed/high-durability starter that reduces crank time for quicker restarts. Its function is regulated by algorithms, which act on a vehicle’s powertrain and chassis components.

As a result, acceleration is always aligned with driver inputs. Passive accelerator application is met with measured throttle response; hard inputs trigger aggressive starts. And there’s no waiting for either.

ESS works this way:
  • Engine controls constantly monitor vehicle speed
  • When vehicle brakes to a stop, fuel flow is cut and engine turns off – events that save gas and reduce emissions
  • Beefier batteries maintain other vehicle systems so in-cabin comfort is unaffected
  • When brake pedal is released, engine automatically restarts and segment-exclusive nine-speed automatic transmission is engaged – all within 0.3 seconds

Bella Boost
Lending greater diversity to Chrysler Group’s powertrain landscape in North America is the return of Alfa Romeo. The two-seat 4C will be powered by a 237-horsepower 1750-cc direct-injected turbocharged intercooled I-4.

The high-performance powerplant features dual (intake and exhaust) continuous variable-valve timing (VVT). Intake and exhaust systems for the Alfa Romeo 4C’s mid-engine layout were optimized for maximum responsiveness. For added refinement, this high-output engine includes a crankshaft with eight counterweights.

A new generation turbocharger features a pulse-converter exhaust manifold to exploit pressure waves and boost torque at low-engine speeds. Additionally, a waste gate valve adjusts turbo pressure and improves the 1750 cc engine’s efficiency by minimizing pumping losses.

Advanced scavenging technology enables the all-new Alfa Romeo 4C to maximize torque at low-engine speeds and deliver more response to driver input. The resulting air flow from the inlet manifold to the exhaust manifold increases combustion efficiency and turbine speed, all while eliminating turbo lag. The outcome: 258 lb.-ft. (350 N·m) of torque, 80 percent of which is available at 1,700 rpm.

An automatic after-run pump cools down the system.

The 1750 cc turbo engine is mated to specifically tuned Alfa TCT twin-clutch transmission. Paddle shifters accommodate aggressive driving.

Grunt Work
Another milestone for model-year 2015 is the migration of Chrysler Group’s innovative nine-speed automatic transmission to the all-new Chrysler 200 mid-size sedan, Jeep® Renegade small SUV and the Ram ProMaster City commercial van.

In each, the transmission’s availability marks a segment-first.

With its unique 9.81 ratio spread, the nine-speed automatic delivers efficiency and refinement. In the all-new Chrysler 200, it contributes to a fuel-economy gain of up to 13 percent, compared with the model it replaces.

In Sport mode, the transmission’s shift schedule is altered for firm, quick engagement – a level of responsiveness further intensified by paddle-shifter activation.

Traction Action
In addition, the launches of the Chrysler 200 and Jeep Renegade are distinguished by their respective applications of Chrysler Group’s innovative rear-axle disconnect technology. It uniquely disconnects and reconnects the rear axle – automatically and seamlessly – as needed and at any speed.

When driving conditions warrant only front-wheel-drive, the rear axle disconnects at both the PTU and rear-drive module, which improves fuel economy by reducing the parasitic loss, which occurs with conventional systems.

For the all-new 200, the result is best-in-class all-wheel-drive system. For the ground-breaking Renegade, two levels of 4x4 capability are offered, both of which live up to the Jeep brand’s reputation for intrepidness.

Jeep Active Drive is fully automatic and delivers seamless operation in and out of four-wheel drive, and at any speed. This system requires no driver intervention, delivers yaw correction during dynamic events and improves both understeer and oversteer conditions.

Jeep Active Drive can provide up to 1,475 lb.-ft. (2,000 N·m) of the engine’s available torque to the rear wheels, enabling optimal grip in low-traction conditions. A fully variable wet clutch housed in the rear-drive module utilizes the Jeep brand’s proprietary algorithms to provide the proper amount of torque for any driving condition, including low-traction surfaces, aggressive starts and dynamic driving.

Jeep Active Drive Low is available in the Renegade Trailhawk and delivers best-in-class off-road performance. Building off Jeep Active Drive, the system affords a 20:1 crawl ratio for 4x4 Trail Rated capability.

Automatic Accessibility
Also new for model-year 2015, the Fiat 500L, 500 Turbo, Abarth and Abarth Cabrio will feature an available new six-speed automatic transmission.

The 500L and 500 Turbo upgrades are designed to deliver greater refinement, while Abarth enhancements make more accessible the driving experience for which the athletic brand is famous. To accommodate the torque-rich 1.4-liter turbocharged I-4, the new six-speed transmission has been upgraded with additional clutch plates to match the engine’s sporty attributes.

A Sport mode further augments driver engagement through aggressive pedal-mapping and capabilities such as fuel-cut upshifts, rev-matching downshifts and corner gear-hold.
